We are looking for short fiction, poetry, interviews with authors & publishers, opinion pieces, journal entries, travel articles with a literary twist, essays of all kinds … What we want is either fiction & poetry, or non-fiction about every facet of fiction & poetry. Short stage-plays & short screenplays are cool too.

We are not paying anything right now. Maybe this will change. The author retains all rights to anything published on this site. If we accept to publish your piece, you agree to let us publish it on our website and keep it in our files indefinitely. All rights revert right back to the author. If we want to do anything else with your piece, we will ask you permission first and discuss any other contracts at that time. If you re-publish your piece anywhere else under any other form, we ask that you mention us and our web-address. If you’ve published your piece somewhere else before us, we ask that you let us know the name of the publisher / zine / magasine / website / blog / et cetera, and the date of publication.

If we decide to publish your piece, we reserve the right to do ANY edit(s) we deem necessary. That being said, we believe in communication & respect,

We want lots of content, so don’t be shy. We want NBP to become a sort of virtual cafe, where people come on a regular basis to check out the new cool stuff.

We are looking for reviews of books, and also of publishers and bookstores! We tend to lean more towards small publishers and independent bookstores; however, if there is a really cool employee working at a big chain store that you think should get a wink for his / her efforts, we’ll take a small entry about that as well.

Basically, we’re open to whatever as long as it has some relevance to the book industry, authors, writing, and entertainment via words and storytelling.

For Book Publication

We do not accept unsolicited manuscripts.

Please send us a query letter including a brief history of yourself, what your project is about, several sample pages, and whatever else you think is important. We hope to publish two to five new titles per year, though we’re not there yet by any means.

We are looking for one more title for publication in 2009.

We are interested in all genres, though we tend to lean towards narratives from people who are themselves a bit lost. We tend to like characters who are out of touch and/or living in a place foreign to them.

We are interested in journal-writing, fiction—genre mainstream literary … terms I dislike—non-fiction, poetry, personal essays, translations … we like noir, hardboil, sarcasm, colloquialisms, magic-realism, surrealism, style for the sake of style, strong images, short and sweet … we are interested in humor, in satire, and a willingness to tell a story without moralizing or giving a lecture. We are not interested in teenage or post-teenage angst, religious, or how-to’s.

Unsolicited manuscripts will go unread, unreturned, and will most probably end up in the garbage. Thank you.

We are currently working on projects written in English. Eventually, we hope to accept projects in French, Spanish, English and a mixture thereof.
